🎯 Design Opportunity & Goals
The original event flow felt static and utilitarian—functional, but not fun. We saw an opportunity to reimagine the experience to better reflect Shine’s values: intuitive, emotionally resonant, and celebration-first.
We grounded the redesign in four key experience principles:
Visual-first creation instead of form-first input
Smart defaults powered by AI to reduce effort
Social signals to build guest momentum
Mobile-first UX for real-life, on-the-go planning
These principles led to focused design goals:
Make party planning feel exciting—not administrative
Let users instantly generate vibrant, thematic covers with AI
Encourage interaction through visible RSVP states and guest flows
Support a wide range of events—seasonal, spontaneous, or niche

Instead of starting from scratch, users begin with real-world event categories: Dinner Party, Bonfire, Craft Night, Graduation, and more.
Each template includes curated visuals, seasonal themes, and smart defaults—making it easier to say “Let’s do this.”
🤖 AI-Powered Invite Covers
With our “Make it Shine” feature, users can instantly generate a beautiful invite cover using text prompts and animation filters. No design experience needed—just vibes.
📅 Smart RSVP Tracking
Every invite card shows RSVP status right on the surface:
🟢 You went → 🟡 You haven’t responded → 🔴 Canceled
Hosts can nudge guests, message attendees, or update details—all in one place.
📱 Mobile-Optimized End-to-End Flow
We designed Shine Parties to be lightweight, fast, and joyful on mobile. From tapping a template to sending invites, the entire journey is 100% phone-friendly.

🧠 What I Learned
Redesigning Shine Parties reinforced that event planning is as much about emotion as logistics. When the tools feel delightful, expressive, and fast, people are more inclined to use them—and share the experience with others. Thoughtful defaults, beautiful surfaces, and light social pressure go a long way in helping people celebrate better.
